Attorney General Sues Radio ChainBy MICHAEL GORMLEYAssociated Press WriterALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Gifts, trips and cash were usedto pave the way for air time for certain songs atradio stations owned and operated by the nation'sfifth largest chain, according to a lawsuit filed byNew York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. The accusation was denied by the company, EntercomCommunications Corp. of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., which ownsand operates more than 105 radio stations.OH, ISN'T THAT CHARMING? THEY "DENIED" allwrongdoing!WHY IS HOWIE CARR WASTING HIS TIME WITH A BOOK ON THEBULGERS? THE OEDIPUS STORY HAS MORE SPARKLE - ONLYBECAUSE AUNTY OEDI IS SUCH A HATEABLE BUFFOON!DAVID LEE ROTH COULD'VE MADE MILLIONS GOING AFTER THEPAYOLA RIDDEN CRIMINAL HAD HE ONLY DID SOMETHING ALITTLE NOVEL..."HEY, a former CBS "executive" EddyHyson was found face down on the urine soaked floorsof the Rathskellar Bathroom - drug testing so BarryBonds could hit those homers!"http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/MUSIC_PROBE?SITE=7219&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2006-03-08-11-14-19Now that would've got some listeners for ol' DavidLee!SPITZER STORY:"We have moved from the label side, those who put outthe records and are forced to pay for air time, andswitched to the radio conglomerates ... that areextracting money," Spitzer said Wednesday. For example, one memo from a programmer at WKSE inBuffalo to Columbia Records in 2003 stated: "Do youneed help on Jessica (Simpson) this week? .... if youdon't need help I certainly don't need to play it."RADIOINFO:OH, REALLY? TO THE RADIO CONGLOMERATES? HEY ELLIOT -GO TO DOVER MASS, DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT$200.00. Edward Oedipus has already collected it foryou!HEY ELLIOT - HERE'S HOW YOU DO IT:Send subpoena to:Carter AlanBradley JayBill AbbatteMake them put hand on Bible.Ask if they ever saw Oedipus Hyson stuffing CDs into asecret room at 1265 Boylston St, then personallystuffing them into his little white van when hisslave/go-to-guy Roy wasn't available, and droppingthe contraband off to all the little record retailersto get some quick cash!do it!put some of the employees under oath and let themrat out that rat Oedipus!SPITZER STORY:For example, one memo from a programmer at WKSE inBuffalo to Columbia Records in 2003 stated: "Do youneed help on Jessica (Simpson) this week? .... if youdon't need help I certainly don't need to play it."YEAH, AND OEDIPUS NEEDS 25 "CLEANS", PROMO COPIES WITHNO CUT OUT MARKS, TO SELL TO BOSTON RETAIL INVIOLATION OF FCC PAYOLA LAWS.I KNOW - BECAUSE HE DEMANDED IT OF THE LABEL IREPRESENTED!!!!! SPITZER STORY:Spitzer claims air time was sold for $1,000 or morefor individual songs. He said the practice includedproviding a $2,500 laptop computer for a countrystation in exchange for playing artists Joe Nicholsand the duo McHayes, for station concert appearances, for a personal appearance by country artist BlakeShelton, and for playing Liz Phair songs. "Don't TellMe" by Avril Lavigne aired 109 times in a week onEntercom's Nashville station WQZQ. More than a thirdof the "spins" were paid for by Arista Records, thelawsuit claims.HEY - WHAT ABOUT THOSE FREE VCRs THAT GEFFEN WAS'ALLEGEDLY' GIVING AWAY IN THE 1990s WHEN LOISKENNEDY, EX-WIFE OF OLDIES 103'S TOM KENNEDY, WAS THEPROMO WOMAN????Spitzer also accused the company of "falsely promotingrecords up the music charts" in reports to themagazines Billboard and Radio & Records about the playtime of songs that was supposed to be based onpopularity.PAPER ADDS? NOT OUR OEDIPUS!!!!! OEDI PUTTING'PAPER ADDS' IN THE TRADE PAPERS?HEY - DIDN'T radio and records SUSPEND WBCN FOR DOINGSOMETHING LIKE THAT? ENQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!Spitzer said payola violates radio stations' federallicenses and New York state civil law. He said theFederal Communications Commission, which he accused ofbeing "asleep at the switch" on payola, shouldconsider revoking the licenses.ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH? OUT TO LUNCH IS MORE LIKE IT.OEDI GOES OUT TO LUNCH, ADDS THE RECORD, FCC DOESNUTHIN!Spitzer said listeners and artists are hurt by payola, sometimes forcing the same song on the air every hour, according to the lawsuit.RADIO STATIONS GET HURT, ARTISTS GET HURT, LISTENERSGET HURT, OEDIPUS GETS A MANSION IN DOVER.YOU DO THE MATH.SEND OEDIPUS TO WALPOLE!"The decisions are being made as to what to put onthe airwaves based on bribes to be paid and extracted, rather than on judgments based on artistic merit," hesaid.NO S..T SHERLOCK! DUH, WHEN DID YOU COME TO THATCONCLUSION? oedipus DOESN'T HAVE A CREATIVE THOUGHTIN HIS EMPTY HEAD!But Entercom spokesman Adam Miller said the companyplays by the rules.OH PLEASE, HOW MUCH GRAFT DOES HOWIE CARR GLEEFULLYYAP ABOUT"We have firm policies prohibiting payola andrequiring compliance with the federal sponsoridentification rules and we enforce them," he said."We have cooperated fully with the attorney general'soffice in this investigation. Now that the attorneygeneral has filed this civil action, we are confidentthat the issues will be fully and fairly resolved bythe court."YEAH, STRIP ENTERCOM OF WRKO JUST LIKE GENERAL TIREWAS!!! HA HA HA. NO MORE HOWIE CARR ON THE AIR.HA HA HA. The lawsuit claims it has evidence in documents ande-mails that executives discussed strategies forsupplementing radio station budgets with payola cashfrom record companies and the independent promotersthat act as middle men in the industry.PLEASE SEND CHECKS TO:THE OEDIPUS FOUNDATIONDOVER, MASS.Spitzer said Entercom e-mails he obtained include onefrom an unidentified executive that stated: "These arenot optional. They come from corporate and generatemillions of dollars for Entercom."IF OEDIPUS JOINS ENTERCOM IT WILL BE OEDICOM!KIND OF LIKE ENRON AND MICHAEL CHRICHTON'S DIGICOM!ENTERCOM, ENTERCOM AND OEDICOM!Spitzer said he is filing the civil action in stateSupreme Court in Manhattan because New York's civillaws address the alleged behavior. He said a criminalcase would be difficult if not impossible to make.YEAH, AND ENTERSCAM WILL PAY SPITZER OFF AND LA DEE DAIn February, Spitzer subpoenaed nine of the nation'slargest radio conglomerates in his "payola"investigation of major artists and songs that heclaims received air time because of payoffs byrecording companies. Two major recording companiesagreed last year to settle their parts of theinvestigation. Warner Music Group Corp. said it wouldpay $5 million, and Sony BMG Music Entertainmentagreed to pay $10 million.YAWN. PAPER TIGER.Payola today differs from the 1950s payola thatshocked early rock 'n' roll. These days programmingexecutives, not disc jockeys, decide what is played.Spitzer said he found the practice at Top 40, adultcontemporary and country stations. One memo said asingle station should expect $125,000 a year inpayola.YEAH, GO TO DOVER AND SEE WHAT PAYOLA CAN DO FOR THEAIRHEAD AUNTY OEDIShares of Entercom fell 8 cents to $28.68 in afternoontrading on the New York Stock Exchange.ONLY 8 CENTS? http://radioinformation.blogspot.com/http://mediaboston.blogspot.comhttp://mediaboston.blogspot.composted by radioinfo at 1:11 PM
